What is authentic about today's teen subculture?

Technology is authentic to today's teen subculture.  we grew up with advanced technology and most commonly use it more so than the older generations.  Teens are always on the internet, cell phones, ipods, etc.  Teens of this age do not know life without advanced technology alon with its benefits and downfalls.  Some believe that this technology has made life much too complicated and face-paced.  They also believe that it created the ill-influencing media, which has corrupted this age of teenagers and distracted them from elements of greater importance.  Yet, others believe that technology has had a positive influence on teens of this age.  They most commonly believe that the advances in technology cause advances in human knowledge and intelligence from generation to generation.  They also believe that it provides greater opportunity and accessibility whether it be education, socialization, etc.  I remain indifferent on the topic; I agree with both opinions of benefits and downfalls and cannot distinguish which bias had great effect on my opinion.  I also don't really care, because there is nothing that will change.

CD Project

I chose to do Beyonce Knowles for the CD project.  She is classified as an R&B/Soul artist.  However, she is mostly known for combining various genres, whether through tempo, instruments, vocals, style, etc.  My favorite song by Beyonce is Irreplaceable.  I think the lyrics are powerful in a passive way.  One of her idols, Gloria Gaynor, spoke of women empowerment in her song "I Will Survive".  Beyonce brought back the issue of women empowerment with a more modern song, that appeals to a younger crowd.

Elvis

In class Friday, we watched a movie on Elvis Presley.  I knew he acted as a stepping stone in making America a more liberal country, appealing to teenage girls with his good looks and swinging hips.  However, I had no idea his influence on America in the 1950's was so great; not only fighting for sexuality, but women liberation, integration, teenage rebellion, etc.  He's more than the king of rock n' roll.

First Favorite Band

My first favorite band was definitely the Backstreet Boys. My friends and I would always sing and dance to their music, our favorite song was "I Want it That Way". I think I first heard of them when I was around ten. I don't know why I liked them so much, but I worshiped Nick Carter.
